The FC80-5 Flume is five meters in length and 80mm in width. The flume has a built-in recirculating water supply connected to a digital flow meter for accurate measurements during experimentation.

The flume has four different models included, so students have the ability of immediate experimentation in open channel flow.

The models included are:

  • Broad-crested weir
  • Sharp-crested weir
  • Venturi flume
  • Sluice gate

The flume is made of transparent perspex, precision-built to ensure parallel walls and a consistently accurate cross-section along its length. A sturdy steel U-section firmly supports the channel throughout its length. It has a floor-standing frame that supports the working section at a convenient eye-level position for students. A jack raises and lowers the screw support and the digital inclinometer gives an accurate adjustment of the channel angle.

A pump with a control valve, forces water up to flow settling chamber at the upstream end of the channel. This gives smooth, uniform flow, free from entry effects. The downstream end of the channel has a windowed section for visualisation of flow and a settling chamber upon exit.

FC80A - Experiment

An optional cylindrical gate to extend the range of experiments for the FC80 Flume Range to include demonstrations of simple underflow gate regulation.

FC80B - Experiment

An optional radial section gate to extend the range of experiments and applications for the FC80 Flume Range to include demonstrations of the head/flow and discharge characteristics of a radial gate.

FC80D - Experiment

An optional crump weir to extend the range of applications and experiments for the FC80 Flume Range to include demonstrations of flow measurement techniques used in rivers and waterways.

FC80E - Experiment

An optional Dam Spillway to extend the range of applications and experiments for the FC80 Flume Range to include demonstrations of flow control techniques used in dams and levees.

FC80G - Experiment

An optional streamlined hump to extend the range of applications and experiments for the FC80 Flume Range to demonstrate the effects of critical flow conditions and energy loss.

FC80H - Experiment

An optional Parshall Flume to extend the range of applications and experiments for the FC80 Flume Range to demonstrate how flow may be measured with minimal effect on upstream conditions.

FC80J - Experiment

An optional Bridge Piers set for the FC80 Flume range, including cylinder, round nose, square and sharp nose piers, for study and comparison of different conditions.

FC80K - Experiment

An optional roughened bed to extend the range of applications and experiments for the FC80 Flume Range. It investigates the effect of roughened beds on the flow characteristics in open channels.

FC80L - Experiment

An optional syphon spillway to extend the range of applications and experiments for the FC80 Flume Range. It demonstrates the effect of a siphon spillway and the increased flow permitted when compared with an ordinary spillway at similar height.

FC80N - Experiment

An optional wave generator and beach apparatus to extend the range of applications and experiments for the FC80 Flume Range. It demonstrates the dissipation of waves impinging on a beach.

FC80P - Experiment

An optional culvert apparatus to extend the range of applications and experiments for the FC80 Flume Range.

FC80V - Experiment

An optional flow splitter apparatus to extend the range of applications and experiments for the FC80 Flume Range.

H6 - Experiment

For students to investigate the discharge of water over a variety of different shaped weirs. A fully compatible and interchangeable optional ancillary for use with TecQuipment's Digital Hydraulic Bench.
