4 NACA Aerofoils

All the aerofoils have 60mm chord length and 300mm span length so that they fit the full width of the wind tunnel working section for two-dimensional airflow studies. All the four aerofoils have different profiles which help students to compare the lift and drag between different aerofoils and can decide which one to use according to the application.

The different aerofoil profiles are:

• NACA 0012 (Symmetrical)
• NACA 2412 (Convex)
• NACA 6412 (Hollow)
• NACA 65(3)-218 (Double Curvature)

Students can perform experiments on these 4 aerofoils at various speeds and different angles of attack and can compare the lift and drag. 

Using a Pitot tube, students can traverse the model wake to find the downstream pressure distribution and find the drag on the model. They can compare this to direct measurements, obtained using a balance. 

For additional experiments, all the 4 aerofoils can be used with the Single Component Balance (AF1300z) (available separately) or the Three Component Balance (AF1300t) (available separately) for direct measurements of drag and lift. 

TecQuipment’s Smoke Generator (AFA11, not included) increases the educational value of the experiments by showing the flow of air around the models.
