Digital Image Correlation (DIC)
Digital Image Correlation (DIC) Systems for Engineering Education. DefleX® by TecQuipment.
TecQuipment’s Digital Image Correlation (DIC) Range, comprising of our DefleX® products, gives engineering students hands-on experience with an advanced, industry-standard technique for full-field strain, deformation, and displacement measurement.

Widely used in product development, material testing, and finite element analysis (FEA) model validation, DIC is a powerful non-contact optical method that captures how materials and structures behave under varying loads. It enables precise visualisation of stress-strain behaviour, even when changes are invisible to the naked eye. DIC can be your next powerful teaching tool.
Designed for the academic environment, DefleX®-2D and DefleX®-3D offer an accessible, real-time and playback learning experience that integrates seamlessly with products in TecQuipment’s materials testing, next generation structures and theory of machines range.
Students studying mechanical, civil, aerospace and materials engineering benefit from using tools that reflect those found in research labs and engineering industries.
Designed for teaching, by incorporating DIC into the curriculum, educators can:
• Teach advanced strain measurement and analysis techniques
• Support student understanding of FEA validation
• Help students visualise dynamic deformations and vibrations
• Equip learners with industry-relevant digital testing skills
DefleX® is offered with an education licence, making it ideal for undergraduate and postgraduate engineering teaching laboratories. DefleX® gives students the same digital tools used in modern industry. For research applications, please contact us to discuss how the system can be tailored to meet your requirements.

Featured Products

DefleX® Speckling Kit
A comprehensive set of tools and ink to easily apply an effective speckle pattern to a range of surfaces for use with the DefleX® DIC systems.

DefleX® Starter Kit
A simple system for introducing students to the concept of digital image correlation (DIC)

DefleX®-2D
An entry-level digital image correlation (DIC) system to teach students how to measure and visualise surface deformations, strains and displacements in materials and shapes.
The DefleX®-2D edition offers a student-friendly solution for visualising optical deformation measurements on various object sizes. It is equipped with camera measurement and image processing software for analysing motions, displacements and strains. It can measure visible features on objects and material surfaces like screws, joints, edges, grooves and composite structures. This is accomplished with the aid of a speckled pattern applied to the relevant parts of the target surface area. Instructions for applying the pattern are given in the user guide.

DefleX®-3D
From theory to reality - Seeing in microscopic detail
Combining theory, hands-on experimentation, visual learning, and technology evolution, DefleX®-3D is our teaching system helping students learn about 3D digital image correlation (DIC) that measures and visualises full-field surface deformations, strains and displacements.
Designed for teaching, it enables students to explore material behaviour, experimental mechanics, and design validation with real-world data. Simple to calibrate and quick to set up, using two digital cameras and image analysis software, DefleX®-3D captures surface changes in real-time or playback, enabling footage manipulation and data analysis whenever, wherever.
