Wind Turbine Dynamics

The AE1005V provides a comprehensive and engaging platform for exploring wind energy principles in a laboratory environment. It combines precision engineering, intuitive controls, and enhanced user experience to deliver accurate, repeatable experimentation while promoting safety and efficiency.

The wind tunnel that the turbine is mounted in features a bell mouth inlet and integrated honeycomb flow straightener for smooth, uniform airflow. Wind speed is measured using a stowable anemometer that does not interfere with the flow when not in use. Clear observation of turbine operation is possible through transparent viewing panels and a sliding, interlocked door.

The turbine incorporates motorised blade pitch control with digital readout, reducing downtime during experiments and allowing precise performance investigations. A robust yaw mechanism with an adjustment handle enables study of wind direction effects. The system also supports custom-designed 3D-printed blades using the CAD hub file supplied by TecQuipment.

Noise reduction is provided via a removable silencer, which can be stored beneath the apparatus to save space. Safety features include a door interlock to prevent access during operation and intelligent shutdown in the event of overcurrent or overspeed.

The control console includes a large, high-resolution colour display, improving visualisation of all parameters and overall user experience. Dual digital readouts provide real-time monitoring, and the system is compatible with optional VDAS® data acquisition via USB.

Controls for the operation of the product are on the top panel for:

  • Door open (Interlock release)
  • On/off buttons
  • Wind speed
  • Turbine speed
  • Turbine pitch
