Vacancy: Buyer /Senior Buyer

This is a tremendous opportunity for an experienced Buyer to take the lead in supply chain development, helping TecQuipment to rise above global supply challenges and ensuring on-time delivery of high-quality components and services at the right price. This is a dynamic and demanding hands-on role where tenacity, dedication, attention to detail and excellent supplier relationship skills have a direct impact on overall business performance.

TecQuipment is a high mix / low volume manufacturer with an established supply base supporting the manufacture of over 400 different products. Typically, there will be 1500 purchase order lines created/delivered per month covering a range of components including printed-circuit boards, motors, pumps, bearings, instrumentation, and fibre-glass structures. The role also includes placing sub-contract manufacturing orders and ordering laser-cut blanks.

As a critical part of the Production Management Team, you will play an active part in managing the production operation, feeding purchasing information to the team, and responding to priorities as they arise. Main responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the purchasing function to ensure it is at all times fit for purpose and capable of meeting the company’s objectives
  • Managing the supply base to obtain the best possible price, quality, and delivery
  • Placing orders and supervising staff in the placement of orders as required by the Production Plan
  • Working with suppliers to achieve the required delivery dates and quality
  • Working with suppliers, Production and Engineering to overcome issues as they arise


  • Hours: 37 hours per week - 8.00am to 4.30pm Mon–Thurs (30 mins lunch), 8.00am to 1.00pm Fri (no lunchbreak)
  • Benefits: £30,000-£35,000, pension, life assurance, 26 days holiday plus Bank Holidays, pleasant working environment and free parking
  • Contract Type: Permanent, full time.

Essential Requirements

  • 5 years working within manufacturing procurement
  • Expert user of purchasing systems within ERP/MRP
  • Excellent supplier relationship management skills
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Excellent communication and IT skills
  • Experience of supervision/management
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, working to tight deadlines and finding solutions to procurement issues

Desirable Requirements

  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications
  • Knowledge of engineering design and production processes
  • Experience of SAP B1
  • Experience within an SME manufacturing business
  • MCIPS qualified or working towards MCIPS qualification
  • Experience of production planning
