80's Queens Award and Export Expansion

Expanded exports to countries including Turkey, Greece and Mexico. In recognition for excellent international trade, the company received a Queen’s Award.

90's Acquisitions and Export Expansion

To expand the product range, TecQuipment acquired JJ Lloyds, Gilkes, Nickersons, Locktronics and Plint. During this decade the Structures range of products were launched and exports increased to countries including Saudi Arabia, Libya and Kuwait.

The TQ Group was involved in projects all over the world including running two secretarial colleges in Surrey, a Defence Sixth form college in Loughborough, a Training School in KSA, project managing the Bovington army camp Tank Training School plus running the training school for Kuwait Petroleum and another in Libya. Working with some very well known companies at the time including Serco, BAE Systems, Kuwait Petroleum, The Defence Sixth Form. 

In 2008 the TecQuipment educational products company that we know today, was bought out by Simon Woods the current Managing Director, which included the factory building, the order book, the stock, the debtors, creditors and staff (50 at the time), the deal also included buying the original name back …TecQuipment Ltd.

The TecQuipment business was re structured, a new business plan produced and as a result grew both in terms of turnover, profit and head count year on year increased substantially. 

Equally, as the digital age established itself, TecQuipment introduced its digital data acquisition module, VDAS®, that allows students to capture data from experiments on a computer. It was a decade of focusing on across the range product modernisation.

2010's Major Global Expansion

As TecQuipment continued to grow its global presence, this period marked a significant expansion in both scale and capability. The business not only broadened its international reach but also invested in its people, increasing the number of employees to support rising demand and deliver even higher levels of expertise and service.

A key development during this time was the introduction of a fully equipped working demonstration room at the factory. This dedicated space enabled visitors to see TecQuipment products in operation, providing a hands-on understanding of their functionality and value in real teaching environments.

Customers and partners were warmly welcomed to the factory, where they could engage directly with the team, explore product solutions in detail, and discuss their specific laboratory requirements. These visits strengthened relationships, built trust, and ensured that TecQuipment’s solutions remained closely aligned with the evolving needs of engineering education worldwide.

This combination of expanding facilities, growing workforce, and enhanced customer engagement played a vital role in establishing TecQuipment as a leading global provider of engineering education equipment with sales to more than 1500 customers in over 100 countries.

2021 TecQuipment Becomes Employee-Owned

An Employee-Owned Trust has been set up that puts the TecQuipment employees in the driving seat of managing the company’s future. This ensures the business is run for the long-term benefit of everyone, promoting transparency, engagement, and shared success.

Made up of the The Company Board – responsible for the day to day running of the business, the Trust Board - responsible for holding the company in trust for the employee and ensuring it's run for the collective benefit of the employees and the Employee Forum - consisting of members from each department within the company represents the employees as the primary shareholders in the business.

2020s APAC office to support the region
